The Aramaic term Beth gaza בת גצא means "treasury house".

The entire Nazarani rite is sung rather than chanted or spoken. While any musical style can be used to express it, the original tunes are actually quite old and have a long and storied history behind them. They are for the most part ancient Aramaic 'beth gaza', originally composed by Bar Dasain; they were were later adapted by the Malayali people of Kerala, India, to be used in their own Malayalam language.

Upon the invasion of the Malabar coast by the Portuguese in the 16th Century, these same songs were retained, but were given new, more Catholic sounding lyrics. When the Malayali communities moved to Canada, the United States and other diaspora countries, these same songs began to be sung in English, and it is that beautiful English adaptation which is now used in the English language in the Nazarani Rite.

The tones used here were adapted specifically for the English language, by His Excellency, Hadrian Mar Elijah Bar Israel; and the recordings here are presented in his own voice.
